The new Hemel Food Garden
For the past two years, local groups have been working with Sunnyside Rural Trust to decide how to make
the best use of the Hemel Food Garden site, previously known as Central Nursery. Sunnyside has now been
awarded the contract to provide Dacorum Borough Council with bedding plants, and along with that comes
the lease of this amazing site tucked away behind K2 and alongside the canal. Sunnyside will be managing
the site in order to deliver this contract and, with the support of a Lottery grant, also a range of community
food initiatives, including a shop of local produce, training courses and demonstration food beds.
Haim from MoreSouth is also currently building a 'glass-house' out of discarded plastic bottles.
The Hemel Food Garden website and opportunities to volunteer on this wonderful new community venture are
coming soon - so watch this space.
